The Extraordinary Moms Network (EMN) was started by
Heidi Hess Saxton, former editor of “Canticle” magazine,
author, and adoptive mother of two.
Her own experiences of foster-adoption made her aware of the great
challenges that face families today, especially those that decide to open
their homes and hearts to one or more of the 500,000 children in the U.S.
alone who are in need of temporary or permanent homes – with hundreds of
thousands of others in countries around the world.
As Heidi began to write for foster and adoptive parents
through the websites CatholicMom
and MommyMonsters, she
discovered that many of the challenges she faced were shared by biological
mothers as well, especially those with children who have special needs. And
so, she decided to start an online network of mothers, who could share their
experiences and support one another as we embrace motherhood – something all
women are called to do, whether or not we ever experience pregnancy and
childbirth. Some answer that call through adoption or foster care, others
through biological motherhood, still others through spiritual motherhood –
seeking to help others grow in faith, hope, and love for God.
The Extraordinary
Moms Network is an online resource for women with…
- Extraordinary Callings – adoptive and foster mothers,
stepmoms, and others who nurture young lives they did not give birth to. God
has called you to be “extraordinary,” coming alongside biological parents to
love and protect children in need of loving family.
- Extraordinary Challenges – infertility and other reproductive
challenges, troubled marriages, large families, single parents and military
moms who need an understanding ear and a word of encouragement.
- Extraordinary Children – autism, ADHD/ODD, Down Syndrome, and
a myriad of other physical, emotional, and developmental challenges. All
these children are beloved of God, given as true gifts to the families that
embrace them. And yet, even the most loving parent sometimes needs some
additional help. The EMN provides all this and more!
